Made Up Mind/Alabama Pines

I am certain that I am right where I need to be from the chaos that has been the last few years. I am starting to see good changes in myself. I am feeling better and more balanced as a human being. I haven't been able to say THAT in a while. Sheesh!

I am learning what life is about since slowing down and just enjoying it. And I don't really feel like taking the same roads and paths that once were a complete passion then turned into a looming nightmare, and as I struggle to finish what I have piled in a heap on my desk, I realize I HAVE to be honest with myself about this pile. I have to take a dose of reality by way of a self and business audit. I hate making people wait. I hate waiting. Why am I treating others in a way I do not want to be treated? It's the biggest complaint I get. I know how bad I am at that. And aside from some major computer and card issues I have had in the past few years because I have pushed my cameras and computer to the point of exhaustion, I am lucky. Lucky to have only pissed off some. (All of those whom I TRULY apologize to!) Every single client I have had in the past 3 years should be raving pissed off at me. I wasn't doing a good enough job on the technical standpoint and my scheduling/work flow/life balance was neither efficient or sanity saving. This equation equals Jamie-0, Photography- 0. Nothing about this is satisfying to my clients, or my self. Time to make it work, and either then, end it all and start a new project, or only take the clients I can see myself taking on without infringing on my own basic need for balance and sanity.

So many more dreams have began to sprout since being happy with the balance I am experiencing right now. I'm coming into a new understanding of myself. I am learning about Sensory Processing Disorder, something I have been recently (and probably the most correctly) diagnosed with. I have shared with my blog readers in the past about my depression. I wrote through a lot of it through this blog to people who were here to view my photography. I have been called a cry baby who needs a journal, asked why I share that stuff since it is so personal; and also told many good things, such as I helped someone by being relational through my writing, and that I should write a book based on my experiences. All of which I have taken into consideration. The balance of writing in a raw form as I would write in a journal and sharing it with someone feels ok to me. I'm only being honest. I am not perfect, and can't even pretend to be. I am flawed. Completely flawed. And I know others are NOT ok with that, but I am. I have always felt like I perceived things differently and felt things in my own thinking was odd compared to others. Now learning about this diagnosis is helping me to understand myself and why I feel the way I do sometimes, and in return, I know how to help myself and my business.

As a child I was diagnosed with ADD and given Ritalin to calm me down. Well, the Ritalin never worked for me, and then later on in teenage life a depression started because I couldn't stop doing everything differently (or wrong in some people's eyes), but I couldn't explain it to anyone. Because I didn't know why. My rationality and emotional senses were in battle, and the information provided to store, in a traffic jam on the way there.

With the multiple familial deaths in a short period of time, work pressures, and then divorce stress, it was enough to drive a sane person to madness. My symptoms of SPD intensified and drove me to near mental breakdown. I was overcome by rage of the pressures I felt, bitter, angry, and careless because I couldn't focus on anything. When I had any chance in the world to experience quiet, I took full advantage. But sometimes I couldn't work not only because my brain was in sensory overload, but also because my equipment would not work. I do not think this was coincidental. I think this was a helping hand from above. I needed to slow down. I needed to think things through. I needed a helping hand, everyday, until I could accomplish something in full.

Baby Steps, child.

K.I.S.S.
(Keep it simple, stupid.)

I will press on.

I will not give up so easily, anymore.

I will follow God's word in my life.

I will fulfill my soul to it's maximum capacity in this life with things that matter to my family.

I will leave a legacy.

And So it shall be.

Please have patience with me. I am getting there.

No, I did not forget my blog password. I just didn't want to talk.

I've found that I start nearly every couple blogs (Which are few and far between these days) with an "It's been a while" or some sentance of the kind.

That makes me want to vomit, to be quite honest. I'm always better when I write. But this has been a post that has been looming, and I'll tell you why soon. And this may or may not be a tear jerker, Mom, so please grab the tissues, as I am sure you are probably the only one who is going to read this. Don't worry; you will still be proud of me.

When I entered this profession I did it not as a portrait photographer, which no one really knows, because no one really asks. In fact, the opposite usually happens and people assume that I picked up a camera at the age of (enter absurd age here) and have never stopped. That isn't the case, and is the same story you hear from everyone who has ever held a camera and felt a passion after they took their first inspiring image that they got oohs and ahhs over. I, in fact, entered this profession with the intention of fine art. Mostly photographing horses, or anything really, that grabbed my attention. I have really crazy ADD, where details of memories stick with me for like ever. So when I recall things about my dad, my hero, you can understand why I always talk about his smell, or his smile lines. THOSE are the things that stick with me, because they invoke a feeling of pure joy. I am an incredibly positive person under the blankets of sorrow I have buried myself under when things in my life get too pressurized. Too compact for me to fit in the box of my mind. I get panicky and timid. I think irrationally and act like a spaz. I often strike out at people I love the most because they are the ones whom I trust not to give up on me, and know that these are my "swings" or "waves" as I like to call them because there are always going to be waves in the ocean, but they aren't always going to be big. There are very few of these people left. Most have grown weary of me. I don't blame them! There have been days that my spirit was broken and I was ready to pull the zipper or what have you, and walk out of this madness I called my life. I wasn't searching for an "easy" button. I was searching for the "give me a fucking break" button.

I have really mentally been preparing myself for this perpetual change, because as I have now been seasoned in my "waves" I can now keep a fine toothed comb and only collect the pretty seashells of knowledge that God gives me. Every once in a while there is a  rare pearl in there. And we all know that when you have something valuable, there are always thieves darkening your doorstep from time to time. My thief is my sadness, and this time, I am not going to allow that to even step foot upon my welcome mat. He isn't even allowed to breathe in the stardust that surrounds me. Nope. Not even breathe here.

I am only human. And I am not anything special by any means. I am a daughter of God, first. Then a daughter to my earthly parents, even if one is not physically here. And then I am a woman. And then I am a mother. And then I am a lover. And then I am an artist. In that order. I have limits. I am not superhuman. And I am a crazy mixture of extrovert and introvert, with a pinterest memory all filed under people who have influenced me, which is then subcatergorized into how those people have made me FEEL. That is just how I operate. Don't ask me why, as this is what I am not supposed to know as a normal human being. I am not normal and I am not extraordinary. I am just me, as God made me, imperfect, and sometimes I have to shed my shell. I think I shed it alot more than most, emotionally. Or I may be just like you, but since no one talks about their failures, I just don't understand what is wrong with me is actually just being a human being. Who knows. I have no problem saying I'm imperfect. I know I am. That is EVIDENT.

When I don't feel good about something, it makes me clam up, cease all motion, want to crawl into bed and forget the bad. When I feel passionate about something, I will crawl on my hands and knees about it and then nurture it as much as I can. When I am brought bad energy about things, I cannot or emotionally will not do anything more with it. I am a light seeker. I am constantly wanting to be filled up with light. I am a discontented learner. A gypsy soul. I can't help it. That's who I am. Does that make me a bad person? I have begged that question of my soul alot lately. What am I searching for and why am I not satisfied with what is right before me professionally, when at one time it was everything I always wanted? Because my focus was not clear. It was clouded, with things seen and unseen. I was not enlightened on what was going on in my daily life because there were too many smoke and mirrors in my way. What i did not know was that this path was not mine to take. It's time. I have my map, and ready  to learn how to walk free again.

I also came into this profession with the naive sense that people were who they said they were. Everyday we meet others who mask and hide their spirits away in this grandiose exterior. And you know how when you need eggs, or milk or that just one thing that it just isn't worth putting on the makeup and real pants for at the store, and then you see everyone you do not want to see, looking like something that just crawled out of a Louisiana swamp? That's me. I'm THAT chick. From day one I was shoved into this competition of sorts, that I didn't want anything to do with, and for a while was under the guise that i really wasn't in it. That's the game, folks. People aren't that genuine anymore. Yes, I did get guidance at first from my mentors, do NOT get me wrong, and I still have guidance from some that I have weeded out in this ocean of plastic staged waters. But they are only people I can count on one hand. That makes me sick, and sad. I am not trying to be anyone's competition. I didn't ask to be treated that way. I only wanted to be accepted, always. I was naive to think that would happen. This is business. Not pleasure, remember? That sad part is, I still have my fingernails now piercing the skin of that passion, and that passion is bleeding out. Victim of a bleeding desire. The thing with blood is, that it runs out. And then it dies.

Remember when I said that when I find something that brings me light, I nurture it? Remember as a kid, or maybe your toddler does it; They love something so much that when they love it to the most maximum point, they end up hurting it? That's me. I am THAT chick. But those days are over. I now have my pearl. I now have a clear mindset (ahh, there it is!) and I am feeling less stressed because I have realized. I can't handle what this profession has made me. And I am no longer allowing this thing that does not serve my psyche in the way I need it to to take me and shove my ass in that box and lock me in. I am not doing that anymore. It ruined a marriage, it left me with regrets, and it has ruined some of the most important relationships in my life. And that is a detail that I cannot allow to stay in my filing cabinet mind.

I am taking a hiatus from Jamie Temple Photography. I am not quitting, I am not leaving for good. I am just taking time off. It may be a while, it may be months. But when I come back, I am not going to be doing what I have been doing in the past. It's not who I am, and if I am not doing the things that bring my heart joy, then I am misusing the tools, talents and sweet inspirations that God is bestowing upon me. And I am through not listening to my sacred voice. Will I make mistakes? You bet your ass, I will. Because I am only human. Because, we all make mistakes now, don't we? I just choose to be vocal about them. Because if I can help someone else feel human, then I will. THAT is what makes me wealthy of spirit. And that is the only kind of rich I want to be during my numbered days on this earth.

Why am I doing this? Because I now have reason to want to be in my life. Before I was aching to be appreciated for what I was bringing forth. To be honest, people twisted that in every direction but the right one. And it was not working anyway. I finally faced my demons head on, and literally head on. There was a large boom, and I was thrown on my ass, with a great big finger in my face scolding me. With a big backhanded slap in the face, I was told to wake up to what was going on around me before it ate me alive. And babycakes, I opened up a freaking can of worms that no one was ready for; not even me. And I got cast in a bad light every day of the week, by everyone and their brother who had ears. And I got a big fat taste of my own medicine. And then I remembered, "I messed up, I'm sorry, please forgive me, please let me learn from it, and thank you for the forgiveness." And then life went on. And the more I did that, even if i didn't always feel contented in it, I can let it go and get back to the real roots of me.

I'm ok, and that's ok, and I don't need to be in this game I never asked to be in anymore. I will only make art for me now. And if I choose to ask people to be a part of my art, I will ask. But I will not beg, and I will not go against what I believe so truly is ingrained in my soul to do. I am not a competitor. I am only human with a radiant range of emotion. That's all I can ask of my soul. As it will not offer any more than that, and I am not selling my soul anymore.

So ta-ta, for now, everyone. I will not be scheduling as often after this summer, and I will only be taking the appointments I really want to do. I am booking my last wedding tomorrow for 2014, unless there is something I want to do creatively.
Thank you for all of the support, as I know I have a few people who do support me in this decision. And by a few, i mean a very important few. Time for my spirit and I to reconnect again.

Digital Negatives for sale

Hello everyone! I know I have been absent from my blog for a LOOOOOOOOOONG time, but I felt this was the best way to communicate this, and please pass this on to everyone you know that may have had their images taken by Jamie Temple Photography.

I am cleaning out my hard drives and currently making room for the next season on my computer. 6 years of images takes up a lot of room!

With that being said, I am currently opening up the vaults and allowing my past clients and current clients to purchase their edited digital negatives from ANY session I ever shot. Including Weddings and Kicks to Coos sessions. I have everything backed up twice, so if you have had a session with me, I will allow you to purchase the edited images, allow you to print them as well, and then I will only have them backed up once after purchase.

YES, YOU CAN PRINT THEM. I said it.

I know I have not allowed this in the past, only because it's how I chose to run my business. I regarded my art as something that needed to be printed on a paper I preferred, by a printer I preferred. I still feel this way. But the industry as it is in this area has forced me to meet the demands of what my clients WANT rather than what I want. The competitors in this business have also forced me into it. I think it is slowly killing the photography industry, as well as providing a noose for the small business to hang itself with, but I get it. Clients want what they want. I will provide what my clients want.

With all of that being said, I cannot guarantee any prints that are printed outside of my services. I offered lifetime replacements on any damage to products I offered. I will no longer honor that unless it is ordered and printed through me.

You can purchase your sessions in this manner:
Any digital negatives for Baby, Children, Family, Skinny Senior, Engagement sessions to purchase are $100.
Any Wedding or Kicks to Coos will be $500 for the digital negatives.

Contact me at jtphotography@live.com to purchase them. All payments will be accepted through Pay Pal, Cash or Check. No images will be given until payment in full is received. The images, after paid in full, will be sent to you with our PASS program.

Thank you for being a client of Jamie Temple Photography

Robert Hunter's Lyrics and my heavy soul

"I feel I've got 10 books in me."- Robert Hunter

I love this quote from Robert Hunter, lyricist for the Grateful Dead. Not only does it mean he has so many stories to share, but you could also take it literally and understand how bogged down he feels when he doesn't write. I have gone a while without writing. That's never a good thing for me. My soul becomes heavy and icky. It's an elephant on my chest feeling to me. So, today, I write.

Robert Hunter's lyrics are so perfect. He explains details in ways that make the words dance around in your head. They are like verbal cotton candy to me. His most famous line, "What a long, strange trip it's been." could be a writing within itself today.

In 12 days, I will have been without my dad's physical body, voice, smile, laugh, scent... here on earth for one year. One whole year. It has definately been a long and strange year. One that has brought heartache and struggle, but I cannot dismiss that I have grown and accomplished things in this year that I may not have done without the sheer determination of my dad in my heart, cheering me on. I am grateful for that. I don't know how many days in this year I have had to peel myself out of bed to make it another day. I cannot count how many times I have had to excuse myself from a simple dinner or a conversation to go cry. I cry behind the camera at every father/daughter dance. I get teary just writing that.

"Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can tell,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul"- "Brokedown Palace"

It's amazing how true it is that, "you never know what you've got, until it's gone." I mean, I knew I loved him while he was here. But I didn't know how much I depended on him while he was here. There are too many times I have wanted to pick up the phone and talk to my dad. I still have his messages on my voice mail, every single one verbally signed with an "I love you" at the close of it. But listening to a message just doesn't cut it for me. It feels so flat. I want to hear him laugh at my airheadedness sometimes, or guide me through something I need help with. I want my dad. That's just it.

"There is a road, no simple highway, Between the dawn and the dark of night. And if you go, no one may follow. That path is for your steps alone."- "Ripple"

I haven't walked the path of this last year alone. I will make that clear. I have had many people help me back up when I have stumbled. I have had alot of bumps and bruises along the way, especially personal ones. Some, I don't even care to remember because in the light of things, they didn't really matter. The big picture trumped them, and now those things have been put into perspective for me, and they have found their place on a shelf in my past. But the personal journey I find myself on, the one for only my steps, continues to evolve. I thank my parents for that. I'm strong-willed. I am ambitious and stubborn. I work hard and harder if I think something is just beyond my reach. All those things could have been the matter that make up the person my dad was. Those traits were not born into me, they were learned.

"Saint Stephen will remain, all he's lost he shall regain,
seashore walk by the suds and the foam,
been there so long, he's got to calling it home.
Fortune comes a calling, calliope woman,
spinning that curious sense of your own." - "St. Stephen"

Even with the loss of my father, even with that giant void, I am still blossoming. I am in a new reality, and though I don't like it most of the time, I have to call it my home now. Because this is where I live now. A world that exsisits without my dad's physical form in it.

I remember clinging to one thought through his last day. I remember comforting myself with the notion that my dad's outer shell, his cocoon, was what was in the bed struggling. It looked like my dad's face, his arms, his hands, his legs, his feet; but it was not his soul. I remember telling myself that God would not have made a man so strong to suffer like this now. I knew in my heart of hearts that God had already taken his soul to paradise. That his outward body was only suffering because the most important part of him, the part we all miss now and what made him who he was, was no longer residing in that body. He shed his cocoon, to spread his wings in paradise. I could never ask him to return

Cora. 6 months.

It's always great to see little Cora, her big sister Ruby, and Meghan for Cora's Kicks to Coos session. I love to see how much she has grown and she always shows me something new she has learned when I come to shoot her session. Annnd, Meghan always has so many options for me to shoot with. She has a gorgeous home :)

Love the simplicity of these shots. And yes, I know there are a LOT of black and whites, but I loved how they looked, and it's my blog, so... ;)

Nick's slice of heaven...

There is something about quirky places and seeing the unusual in an ordinary location that makes my heart do flip flops. It makes my brain go 10,000 miles a minute and inspires me immediately. This is how I am able to drive around during a session and then just see what I want in a particular location, without having to do a bunch of scouting beforehand. I think it is one of my finest qualities as a Senior photographer, the ability to be spontaneous. On a "day date" with my husband, we had a lot of time to do nothing, and so we decided we would check out a place off of St. Rt. 33, outside of Wapak, that we always pass on the way to a few shows we had went to see. It looks like an old, ordinary elementary school with a sign out front and painted wood cut outs of musical instruments tacked onto the building. There is an old fire truck parked out back that always caught my attention. Little did I know that what was inside was what I was really looking for.. As soon as we opened the doors to the Famous Old Time Music Company a cow bell on the door of a very quiet building echoed through the halls. The air smelled of antiques and the walls are lined with old furniture and vintage music memorabilia and instruments. We headed to the showroom, and it was ike reaching the end of the rainbow. A jackpot of vintage mandolins and guitars; stringed heaven, I would called it :) My next thought after I began breathing again was Nick Thompson. You know, "The Hair".. The cutie pie with awesome hair who had my favorite Senior guys Session for 2012, the guy who played his guitar for me while I shot and seriously sat there and just started at him while he played because I didn't want to interrupt the amazingness? Yeah, him. :) I asked him if he would be willing to come to this magical place I had found and do a few shots just for marketing. He agreed. I wish I could have bottled the look on his face when he walked in :) The shots we got that day were exactly how I pictured them in my head. They turned out perfectly. Photobucket Photobucket Thank you, Nick, for playing music to me all day and for the beautiful pictures :)

2013 Senior Marketing

It's that time of year again :) I had the opportunity (miracle, really!) of shooting 4 girls from Crestview this year! I want to thank them for coming to my rescue on such short notice! I was so super excited for this shoot. Not only had I lined up an old downtown apartment in Ohio City, but a Van Wert business that I LOVE allowed me to use some of their GOREGOUS refurbished furniture for this session. If you are in Van Wert, stop into Rehab Fab and check it out! They have amazing pieces at very affordable prices! I already have a wish list! Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket All chairs and suitcases are from Rehab Fab :) Thank you to the Village of Ohio City for permission to use the building, Rehab Fab for the furniture, and to Holly Genth, Taylor Springer, Taylor Hamrick, and McKenzie Nofer. :)

The Kinnicutt Girls...

I was so ecstatic when Kristy got ahold of me through facebook about having pictures done of her two ABSOLUTELY beautiful girls :) Beauty runs in this family! Love these series of pictures. Such a sweet momento of sisters :) Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Those eyes! So sparkly! Photobucket Photobucket I just love someting about this picture. She is such a beautiful little girl, smiles or not! Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket A little game of Ring around the Rosie :) Lots of giggles ensued :) Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Thank you to the Kinnicutts!
